Local Sky Drama

I didn't get very far after leaving work yesterday, before I was compelled to stop and fully appreciate this moment in time:

I think I used a higher than needed ISO setting for this shot. I don't remember how high, and I was just experimenting to see the result. I can really see the noise, and I don't like that. I would appreciate feedback about how I could have gotten a cleaner image, but still have the color and contrast.

Actually, any feedback would be welcome, since I am wanting to learn as much as I can.

Thank you!

Hmmm... you've been busy! I like the look overall, but will you be bringing your banner back?

What was the ISO setting? I've had trouble getting the enlarged view (problem is on this end, I'm sure), so I can't really see the noise yet. I won't usually go above ISO 200 in situations like this one, and try to stay at 100 if possible, but then my camera is much older and noisier overall... you probably could go further without much visible noise.

Thanks Scott! I was hoping you would help me out here. I did move to an ISO of 200 for some other pics I took, but this one had the most interesting sky and composition overall, so I went with it. I think I may have used an ISO of 450 or somewhere around there. I wish I could remember. Maybe this weekend I can show you the noise and some other things I noticed when looking at a very large version. ICK!

I would like to bring the banner back, but it just doesn't look good with this format, or others I considered, so I'm thinking about photographing a new image to use that works better. Should be fun searching that out!

I really liked that banner myself, Andrea. I thought there was something different and now I know what it is. :)

I liked it, too, Mom. It really didn't look good with the new blog template I'm using, so I'll have to figure out a new banner, because I like this format better. I'll surprise you one day!
